Write-Up:
Having owned well over 30 cars in my 36 years, I have had a variety of cars on my “resume”. Most of my car resume included Chevy’s of different sorts; S-10 pickups, a Tahoe, Suburban, Cavaliers (Z24) and even a Corvette. I have even dabbled a bit in Dodge and Chrysler but my only German experience was my 1979 VW Scirocco. The car had such a presence and was so fun to drive. When I was looking at getting rid of my 2006 MINI, I had no idea I would be walking into my 2006 Volvo S40. It wasn’t in the market for a turbo (although I would like to kick myslf now!) but a four door German car. I have always said I would buy a BMW 335, 328 or an Audi A4. The one thing that kept nagging me about the BMW’s and the Audi’s is their presence where I live. I live in Albuquerque, NM and they are very common, and I didn’t want that. Since 2004.5 I had noticed the new look of the S40 and it was then I realized that this was the car for me.
I purchased this car from Park Place in Dallas, TX, from my brother who was currently the salesman. This is the first car I have ever bought without a test drive, or peek under the hood. I simply walked in the dealership, handed them a check and walked up to the car for the first time. I have to tell you, it was an incredible experience. Have you ever felt like you stepped out of your body and were floating above yourself? I was that excited. Amongst brand new Lexus IS 350’s, GS and LS models, Mercedes C, S and R classes sat my S40. Yeah those cars are nice but there was a connection immediately with my car that I will never forget. It gleamed like liquid glass and I was in heaven! I couldn’t believe that it was my car and that finally, I was going to own classy, rigid and stylistic car that would turn heads. I had a little apprehension because I thought I might have to fight my wife for the keys. That anxiety soon left me as soon as she saw my excitement. She knew she had no chance of this being her car. Now almost 2 years later, I still get excited to drive to the store, work or just sit in it and see the engineering feats that Volvo accomplished in creating this spectacular automobile.
