Hello guys, I'm Jason, I picked up a 2007 S40 2.4i, I am in college, and supporting myself, so a T5 was out of the question, had I gotten one, it would have opened up far too many expensive roads of downpipes, ECU upgrades and such that I wouldn't have been able to resist, so I went with a 2.4i which I LOVE anyway. I have future plans to keep one of these cars in my life however, I have not found a better car than the S40, and believe me, I did a hell of a lot of car shopping to find the best bang for the buck. Volvos have been in my family since the 70s, including 240s, 740s, 850s an S70 and now 2 S40s(05 & 07).

Ok on to the interesting bits:

Specs from the factory:
Base model 2.4i Manual
-Passion Red paint(best color ever)
-Seats
-Steering wheel
-Glass
-Engine
-Soul

What I have butchered it into:

Interior
Passion Red console, gauge surround and door handles
Metallic black(to match other black trim bits) air vents
Volvo Aluminum pedals
LED interior lighting, White for the mains/footwells, and red for map lighting to use in transit at night Like an aircraft cockpit
Future mods for the interior include
Some sort of different shifter, preferably a black anodized aluminum ball if I can find one! grr. Not a huge fan of the stock one thats for sure, though it is far better than most cars I have driven.
Custom A/F ratio 10-LED monitor setup(+5 geeky points)

Exterior
Side skirts, lower grilles and front and rear lower valences have been vinyl dyed jet black versus stock grayish color.
Front fog light covers have been cut out to match the center, and provide intake air to the CAI
Chrome dipped turn signal bulbs to eliminate the sunny side up egg look
Custom front grill using honeycomb mesh, stock surround, and Volvo trademark slash, then plasti-dipped in black(excluding the slash)
Black license plate cover
Black "VOLVO" emblem, others removed
5% rear tint, 15% front.

Oh!! and of course, some Black/grey/red S40Forums Decals!!! They add +7hp according to initial dyno charts

Suspension/Wheels & Tires
18" Volvo Atreus(C30) wheels, with Falken FK-452 225/40/18 Tires(LOVE EM!!!)
H&R Lowering Springs, Achieved a 1.2" drop in the front, 1.5" in the rear
Evolve Sway Bar, coming soon, part of the group buy
Eibach rear camber adjustment kit, highly recommended and fairly easy to install.

Engine
EuroSport Tuning(Ferrita) exhaust, sounds incredible, couldn't be happier.
Custom CAI with uhh expedited airstream delivery system?(Foglight grill cut out to expose air filter to direct airflow at speed)
Future engine mods
Possibly a custom turbo kit if I suddenly become super rich and have another primary car this will become a euro-project car
Custom Air/Fuel tuning to calibrate the MAF properly to the increased size of tubing used on my CAI.


Oh and I almost forgot, the best mod I have ever done was simply adding TLC and pampering my car, washing, waxing, cleaning and detailing are the best parts! Your car will return the favor by being a loyal and faithful companion With the occasional fit of rage and funny business with the electronics system.

HUGE thanks to the S40Forums community, as well as Swedespeed, a hell of a lot of excellent info between the two forums, and more knowledgeable people than you could ever wish for. Thanks for all the advice everyone has contributed to make my car what it is.

Hey everyone, pic whorage ahead, get out your umbrellas.

Made a custom leather shift boot a few weeks ago, just never got around to posting pictures. Used craft leather from Michaels, and two strands of plain red thread. Pain in the ass..but worth it. The leather is nice and soft and doesn't impede shifting at all.







Also made a custom dead pedal out of some aluminum scraps and hardware I had lying around the shop

Also put on some shiny oval tips from Silverline:






Painted the calipers using that duplicolor kit from Checker auto:









And finally, redesigned my CAI to be an NAI(normal air intake). Utilizes the stock intake snorkel to feed the filter, has a custom heatshield made from scraps I once again, happened to have on hand here in the shop, and turned 90 degrees from my original design, also with a shortened pipe. Also added a piece of mesh secured immediately before the MAF to smooth out airflow flowing around the 90 degree bend, it works very well, eliminated the CEL I was getting weekly.

I picked up one of those eBay carbon fiber lip spoilers, it is made of polyurethane, and it very flexible, I let it sit in the sun for a bit to soften up and applied it to the curveature of the trunk. Honestly, it could pass for carbon fiber unless you really look at it. The pattern is printed in metallic ink so it shifts color in the sunlight as carbon fiber would too. Anyways, pics:

You've got me really inspired to still add a CAI and exhaust to my 2.4i. I've been quickly losing hope since I can't really afford to get a turbo for my car, and I've got this thing about not trading in for another car and just paying the difference.

I also would like to know how you cut the back end to fit the second exhaust port (standard 2.4i comes with only one exhaust IIRC), and did you say you dyed the interior floor plastic (door) trim as well, or just what you showed pictured?

About the exhaust, EST only has the Heico $800 exhaust kit for 2.4i. Which EST kit did you use that was fine even though you don't have the turbo?

I'm also liking the idea of getting non-stock rims, but I'm torn. I've always been a huge fan of the specific rim that euro3b is selling, but I just bought new tires like 3 months ago, and also I don't know how black would look on my car. I'm also torn on a CAI or rims, or save for exhaust, or the kenwood aux system, or the denison optical system, or this or that or the other thing. The list goes on.

Sorry to hijack, but you've seem to got an order going on, and I'm interested in seeing what path others (with much nicer rides than mine) go with their 2.4is.

The rear valence I marked and cut with dikes, then filed with a hollow round wood rasp. That took forever!!

Funny thing about the door trim, it is already black opposed to the grey body trim lol.

No I had the exhaust put on at a shop owned by a friend of a friend, much easier with a lift. No fun for me! There are some things that just can't be realistically done in a garage.


I actually have the Ferrita sport exhaust, which I purchased through EST because they had one hanging around. Call them, or Viva performance and they might be able to hook you up, otherwise Evolve, or custom+flowmaster is a great option(they are louuud, but sick) The heico is an axleback system, versus the others which are catback, heico does have a larger soundpipe now though as well, which puts it on par with other exhausts.


Its your call as to what to do next on your car man, if anything. You may choose to leave it alone. I would recommend it actually, I am poor now that the mod bug has taken it's toll on me.
